R.E.M objavljuju kompilaciju najvećih hitova / R.E.M. to release greatest hits album

Pre nego što su objavili da prestaju sa radom, članovi benda R.E.M. snimili su tri nove pesme koje će biti objavljene na njihovoj kompilaciji najvećih hitova (u prodaji od 14. novembra). Ime albuma je "R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 - 2011" i na njemu će se naći 40 pesama podeljenih na dva diska uključujući i tri nove numere - "We All Go Back to Where We Belong", "A Month of Saturdays" i "Hallelujah" koje je producirao Jacknife Lee. Kompilaciju će najaviti singl "We All Go Back to Where We Belong" koji će biti objavljen 18. oktobra

Before they announced split, R.E.M. members had recorded three new songs for their upcoming greatest hits collection (due Nov 14). The album's name is "R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 - 2011" and it will feature 40 songs devided into 2 discs, including 3 new tracks - "We All Go Back to Where We Belong", "A Month of Saturdays" and "Hallelujah" produced by Jacknife Lee. The set will be preceded by a single "We All Go Back to Where We Belong" (due Oct 18).

Kraj benda R.E.M. / R.E.M. announce split

Članovi legendarnog benda R.E.M. objavili su na svom zvaničnom sajtu da prekidaju sa radom nakon 31 godine postojanja grupe. Ovi muzičari su se u poruci zahvalili, pre svega, svojim fanovima na dugogodišnjoj podršci:

"Fanovima i prijateljima: Kao R.E.M. i kao dugogodišnji prijatelji i saradnici odlučili smo da je došlo vreme da bend prekine sa radom. Odlazimo sa osećajem zahvalnosti, kompletnosti i zaprepašćenosti svime što smo do sada postigli. Svima koji su nekada bili dirnuti našom muzikom ogromno hvala na slušanju", stoji u poruci.

Basista, Mike Mills, kaže da su im nedavni projekti pomogli da donesu ovu odluku.

"Tokom naše poslednje turneje i rada na albumu 'Collapse Into Now' i kolekciji naših najvećih hitova, pitali smo se šta je sledeće? Shvatili smo da su poslednje tri decenije za nas bile pakleno putovanje tako da su te pesme nekako podvukle prirodnu granicu nakon 31 godine rada".

Frontmen benda, Michael Stipe, dodaje:

"Mudar čovek je jednom rekao - da bi se dobro proveo na žurkama, treba da znaš kada je pravo vreme da odeš. Zajedno smo izgradili nešto izvanredno i sada je vreme da to napustimo. Nadam se da naši fanovi razumeju da ovo nije bila laka odluka. Sve ima svoj kraj, a mi smo želeli da ovo uradimo ispravno, na naš način".

R.E.M. su objavili 15 albuma od kojih je najuspešniji "Automatic for the People" iz 1992. godine. Iza sebe su ostavili nekoliko evergrin hitova poput "Losing My Religion", "Everybody Hurts" i "Shiny Happy People". 2006. godine postali su deo Rock & Roll Dvorane slavnih. Do danas su prodali preko 85 miliona albuma širom sveta.

Members of an legendary band R.E.M. have announced a split after 31 year of career. These musicians have given thanks to their fans, above all, for sticking with them all these years:

"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening".

A basist, Mike Mills, said that the group's latest series of projects helped them come to the decision.

"During our last tour, and while making 'Collapse Into Now' and putting together this greatest hits retrospective, we started asking ourselves, 'what next'?' Working through our music and memories from over three decades was a hell of a journey. We realized that these songs seemed to draw a natural line under the last 31 years of our working together".

A frontman, Michael Stipe, adds:

"A wise man once said -- 'the skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave.' We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we're going to walk away from it," he noted. "I hope our fans realize this wasn't an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way".

R.E.M. released 15 albums from which their 1992 set, "Automatic for the People", got the biggest acclaim. They left few classics behind them such as "Losing My Religion", "Everybody Hurts" and "Shiny Happy People". They were inducted to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. The band has sold more than 85 million albums worldwide to date.

Billboard Top 200: Prvi #1 za Lupea Fiascoa / The first #1 album for Lupe Fiasco

Novi album repera Lupea Fiascoa  "Lasers" bio je najprodavaniji album u Americi prošle nedelje sa oko 204 000 prodatih primeraka. Ovo je njegov treći album u karijeri, ali prvi #1 na Billboard Top 200 listi.

Aktuelni album Adele "21" skliznuo je sa prvog na drugo mesto sa 133 000 prodatih primeraka.

U top 10 su još četiri noviteta. Muzika iz serije Glee debitovala je na trećem mestu sa 90 000 primeraka. Novi album Avril Lavigne "Goodbye Lullabye" našao se na četvrtom mestu sa 87 000 prodatih primeraka. Njena prethodna dva albuma debitovala su na prvom mestu, dok je prvi album završio na drugoj poziciji. Na petom mestu su R.E.M. sa Collapse Into You (57 000) i ovo je njihov deseti top 10 album u Americi. Album country pevačice Sare Evens "Stronger" nalazi se na šestom mestu sa 55 000 prodatih primeraka, ali i na prvom mestu Top Country Albums liste.

A new album by rapper Lupe Fiasco "Lasers" was the best-selling album in the USA last week with around 204k copies sold. This is his third album in a career, but the first #1 on Billboard Top 200.

The latest album by Adele "21" slipped one position to #2 with 133k copies sold.

There are four more new entiries in top 10. A soundtrack from TV series Glee debuted at #3 with 90k copies sold. A new album by Avril Lavigne "Goodbye Lullabye" reached #4 with 87k copies sold. Her two previous albums debuted at #1, while her debut album peaked at #2. The 5th place took R.E.M. with Collapse Into You (57k) and this is their tenth top 10 album in the USA. An album by country singer Sara Evans "Stronger" is at #6 (55k), but it also debuted at #1 on Top Country Albums Chart.

Grupa Elbow postigla je najveći uspeh u karijeri jer je njihov novi album Build a Rocket Boy debitovao na drugom mestu sa prodajom od preko 78 000 primeraka. Ovo je njihov drugi top 5 album karijeri. 

Na njihovom putu ka vrhu isprečila se Adele koja izgleda nema nameru da u skorije vreme napusti vrh britanske top-liste albuma. Njen album 21 sedmu nedelju zaredom je na vrhu, a tokom protekle nedelje prodat je u više od 160 000 primeraka, što je dva puta više od ovonedeljnog drugog mesta. 

Među top 10 najprodavanijih albuma u Velikoj Britaniji prošle nedelje, našla su se još tri noviteta. Novi album grupe R.E.M. "Collapse Into Now" debitovao je na petom mestu (32796), Album grupe Noah and the Whale "Last Night On Earth" završio je na osmom mestu, dok je novi album Avril Lavigne "Goodbye Lullaby" zauzeo razočaravajuće deveto mesto (22521). Podsećam da su svi njeni prethodni albumi debitovali na prvom mestu.

A band Elbow reached the highest chart position in the UK with their new album Build a Rocket Boy which debuted at #2 with over 78k copies sold. This is their second top 5 album.

A barrier to their way to the top was Adele who seems has no intention to leave the top spot anytime soon. Her album 21 is #1 for the seventh week in a row with more than 160k copies sold which is twice bigger than #2 sales.
